The freshman survey is administered each fall to all first-time, first-year students. The survey has been administered since 1991 by the UNC Office of the President on an annual basis to students enrolled in all 16 campuses in the system as part of the statewide assessment activities. During this 2003 administration 3,531 Carolina students were administered the survey and 2,196 responded for a response rate of 62.2 percent. The survey elicits responses concerned primarily with information regarding students' demographic, financial, and parental education level.
