The National Center for Education Statistics (NCES) requires the annual reporting of data from universities nationwide. The NCES gathers and disseminates these data using the Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System (IPEDS), a web-based data collection tool.

The Association for Institutional Research (AIR), with support from the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES), provides free online video tutorials about IPEDS data submissions. These 2-3 minute tutorials explain important IPEDS concepts, such as Who Counts as a First-Time Student, Fall vs. 12-month Enrollment, and Tuition vs. Price (Cost).
