Freshmen Collegiate Learning Assessment Completed |

Staff in our office’s Institutional Effectiveness section recently administered the Collegiate Learning Assessment (CLA) to 111 randomly selected members of the freshmen class. The 90-minute assessment measures critical thinking, analytic reasoning, problem solving, and written communication.
Carolina is conducting the CLA for the first time as part of a comprehensive assessment initiative by the UNC General Administration. Each academic year CLA participants assess a sample of freshmen in the fall and a sample of seniors in the spring using a proctored, web-based format. Carolina will sample its seniors this spring. Results can be used to analyze how the university as a whole contributes to student learning and development.
CLA was developed by the Council for Aid to Education (CAE) with the RAND Corporation. For more information refer to CLA in Context (PDF), which provides an overview and describes the CLA Instruments. |
